Celebrating 20 Years of Gamecity Hamburg at the Hamburg City Hall

At the invitation of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the games industry celebrated 20 years of Gamecity Hamburg in the City Hall.

Gamecity Hamburg was given the special honor of a Senate reception at Hamburg City Hall. A strong commitment of the city to the relevance and support of the games industry. Around 200 invited industry guests gathered in the traditional ceremonial hall of Hamburg's city hall to celebrate the last 20 years since the foundation of Gamecity Hamburg in 2003.

The basis for the entire evolution of Gamecity Hamburg was a final thesis by former project manager Achim Quinke. A final thesis with the title: "Gamecity Hamburg". Together with the city and in person of the supplementary project manager Stefan Klein, a strong foundation was created on which the subsequent project manager Oliver Redelfs and, since 2019, the team around Dennis Schoubye could successfully build.

After the celebratory speech by Dr. Carsten Brosda, Minister of Culture and Media of Hamburg, and welcoming words by Head of Gamecity Hamburg, Dennis Schoubye, a lively panel discussion started with three Hamburg games industry experts: Valentina Birke (Head of Indie Arena Booth, Super Crowd Entertainment), Tobias Kringe (Founder & Managing Director Bytro Labs), and Michael Schade (Founder & CEO, Rockfish Games), hosted by Gamecity Hamburg's Project Manager Margarete Schneider. The panel looked back at 20 years of the games industry in Hamburg and forward to the future. A future in which Minister Brosda, in his speech, could even imagine a 200-year games industry Hamburg celebration in these traditional halls. We accept the invitation!

The games industry in Hamburg thrives on its community, creativity, versatility, and consistency. We are grateful for the many people who have made and continue to make this possible with their dedication and work!

We look forward to the next 20 or even 180 years with you!
