Gaia Beyond: Riesenspiel mit winzigem Team

Kaum zu glauben: Das Team, dass im kommenden Jahr sein Weltraum-Spiel „Gaia Beyond“ bei Steam veröffentlichen wird, besteht nur aus drei Leuten! Und davon lebt nur einer hier in Hamburg. Wie kann so etwas funktionieren? gamecity hat nachgefragt.

Ein Spiel mit nur drei Leuten zu produzieren - geht das? Das geht - wie Tobias Offermanns, Florian Richter und Devendra Pohly mit ihrem Titel "Gaia beyond" eindrucksvoll berweisen. Im kommenden Jahr soll das Spiel über Steam releast werden, doch momentan arbeitet das Trio noch daran - mit klar festgelegten Aufgaben. So steckt jeder - gerne nachts - eine Menge Zeit in die Entwicklung. Kommunikationstools wie Skype helfen dabei, denn zwei Mitglieder des Teams leben in Bonn und eines in Hamburg. Damit es dennoch gut funktioniert, bezeichnen die Macher Vertrauen ineinander als wichtige Grundlage für die Arbeit an Gaia Beyond, das bereits seit Anfang 2011 in der Entwicklung ist.

Zuerst im Early Access

Erscheinen soll der packende Mix aus Klassikern wie "Freelancer" und der "X"-Reihe von Egosoft im Frühjahr 2018 als Early Access, die Macher planen bislang mit der fertigen Version 1.0 zum Jahresende. In Gaia Beyond soll der Spieler einen Weltraumtrip erleben, der mit Open-World-Mechaniken, Rollenspiel-Elementen und viel Entdeckergeist eine spannende Story erzählt.

Der Spieler beginnt sein Abenteuer auf dem Pluto und muss sich dann durch verschiedene Aufgaben kämpfen und duskutieren, mit unterschiedlichen Fraktionen zurechtkommen, im Weltraum gegen Piraten bestehen, Geld verdienen und vieles mehr. Die Handlung soll non-linear sein und dem Spieler eine Menge Entscheidungsfreiheit lassen. Wenn das nicht nach einem coolen Game klingt!

Spaß für große Zielgruppe

Gaia Beyond soll dabei eine Generation junger Spieler genauso ansprechen wie alte Hasen, die schon die Vorbilder gespielt und Lust darauf haben, so ein Abenteuer erneut zu erleben. Dabei fordert das Trio aber durchaus auch Geduld und Aufmerksamkeit vom Spieler: Damit die komplexe Story mit zahlreichen Wendungen und Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten ihren vollen Charme entfalten kann, muss ein Text auch mal gelesen und eine Schlüsselszene angesehen werden. Aber da macht sich gamecity:Hamburg mal gar keine Sorgen.
